A Soul That Wants More
Thoughts from the Floor
Stumbling, surviving, still here

For anyone who feels held down but still dreams in color
There are seasons in life where the weight of responsibility feels heavier than usual. Where your soul starts whispering for something bigger, something freer, something that reminds you that you’re more than the roles you fill and the obligations you carry. This poem came from that place — the in‑between space where longing meets reality, where duty meets desire, where the heart aches for more even when life feels tight.
If you’ve ever felt that tug, this is for you.
A Soul That Wants More
My soul has been whispering lately—
not in shouts or storms,
but in a quiet, persistent tug
right in the center of my chest
that says,
There is more for you than this.
It wants roads I haven’t walked,
skies I haven’t stood beneath,
moments that stretch my lungs wide
and remind me what it feels like
to be fully, wildly alive.
But my feet…
my feet are tangled in obligations
that don’t belong to me alone.
Bills that aren’t mine.
Promises I never made.
Responsibilities handed to me
because I’ve always been the one
who steps up,
who carries,
who holds the world steady
when everyone else lets go.
Some of it was spent on me,
yes—
but not because I asked,
not because I wanted it.
And now I’m paying for choices
that were never mine to begin with,
choices that built walls
around the life I dream of living.
Still, something inside me rises.
I don’t want to be held down
by a life that feels too small
for the size of my spirit.
I don’t want to work just to survive,
to wake up every day
only to pour myself into everyone else’s needs
until there’s nothing left
for my own.
I want to live—
live in a way that cracks my heart open
with joy and wonder,
live in a way that feels limitless,
live in a way where I can pick up and go
when the wind calls my name
and not feel guilty for answering.
Maybe I was never running away.
Maybe I was running toward something—
toward wonder,
toward freedom,
toward the version of me
who doesn’t apologize
for wanting more than survival.
But right now, I’m here.
Stuck between duty and desire,
between what I owe
and what I dream,
between the life I’m living
and the life I ache for.
And the ache is real.
It sits in my ribs,
in the quiet moments,
in the late-night thoughts,
in the mornings when I wake
and feel the weight of everyone else’s world
before I even feel my own.
So I ask the sky,
the universe,
the part of me that still believes
in possibility—
What do I do with this feeling?
This hunger for more,
this longing for freedom,
this restless fire
that refuses to go out?
And the answer comes softly,
like a truth I’ve always known:
You don’t get rid of it.
You grow into it.
You let it guide you.
You let it remind you
that your story isn’t finished,
that your dreams aren’t foolish,
that your longing is not a flaw
but a compass.
Even here, even now,
with obligations tugging at your sleeves
and responsibilities stacked at your feet,
your soul is still reaching
for the horizon.
And maybe—
just maybe—
that means you’re not stuck.
You’re becoming.
If this poem found you in a moment where you feel torn between responsibility and desire, I hope it reminds you that longing is not a weakness. It’s a sign of life. A sign of growth. A sign that your spirit is still dreaming, still reaching, still believing in the possibility of more.
You don’t have to abandon your life to honor that feeling. You just have to start listening to it. One small step at a time.
Till we meet at the next resting point, whenever and wherever it finds us.
A messy human, doing their best— Robin Lynn
